In summary, our research group has the following advantages:
Abundant computational resources and guidance: Although our research group is newly established, we have ample computational resources (over 32 A100 and over 64 2080Ti GPUs) and startup funds for you to conduct scientific research. Moreover, with a small team, you will receive comprehensive guidance and assistance from the mentor, including hands-on help with reading papers, writing code, fixing bugs, and writing papers. I promise to help each student optimize and rewrite their first paper from start to finish, and I will respond to any research-related questions within 24 hours.
Research topics closely related to industry: The research topics of our group are closely related to the issues that industry cares about. If you plan to work in a company after graduation, such research topics will give you a significant advantage in job hunting. Additionally, the group encourages students who have met the graduation requirements of the university to conduct research-oriented internships in companies. We also have in-depth cooperation with companies such as Intel, Alibaba, Meituan, Tencent, Huawei, Didi, and Kuaishou. I have received top salary offers from almost all major domestic companies and am willing to share my extensive job hunting experience with you.
Relaxed and comfortable research environment: The School of Artificial Intelligence at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where our laboratory is located, is in the Xuhui Campus of Shanghai (details), with beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. The group provides stipends significantly higher than the average level of the university, and offers free snacks, coffee, beverages, overtime meals, and high-performance computers. The mentor is kind, positive, and cheerful, and being relatively young (born in October 1997), I will have many common topics with you, and there will be no communication barriers. The mentor has a wide range of interests and welcomes more exchanges after research.
For students interested in joining our research group, here are my expectations for you:
Strong self-motivation and genuine interest in artificial intelligence and scientific research: The research group will provide you with ample guidance and scientific resources, hoping that you can fully utilize these resources to produce some truly valuable scientific work, and the mentor looks forward to a positive push with students. For students whose main intention after graduation is non-technical work, I fully support your choice, but our research group may not be the most suitable place for you.
After completing the recommendation for postgraduate studies, you can come to SJTU to complete your graduation project and other scientific research during your senior year: Familiarize yourself with scientific research work a year in advance, and the extra year of experience will provide significant help for your later development. For students who come to SJTU for internships during their senior year, papers published during this period can be counted towards the work output of the graduate stage to meet the university's graduation requirements. The mentor's own senior year project led to three top conference and journal papers and became my own representative work.
Strong self-learning and programming skills: I hope you can master Python/Pytorch/Linux basic operations proficiently and have rich programming experience. The following will be very important plus points: ACM competition participation and awards, deep involvement in website construction, program development, or open source projects, long-term valuable professional knowledge sharing. For me, these will be more important than your GPA and university.
Thank you for reading. If you are interested in our research group, please contact me via email and attach your resume, transcript, and any other information you think will help me understand you. I will reply within a week (if I don't reply within a week, it can be considered not a good match, as there are too many emails to reply to one by one, please understand), and I suggest interested students contact me as early as possible before the summer camp or postgraduate entrance examination.
